So, I'm very green. I'm a huge eco-nut. I'm in love with sustainability. And I'm pretty against big-busness. (Those links might not have everything due to site upgrades, do a search if you want more than those 20 or so posts) However, I have to say that this type of protest campaign doesn't work as a conversion tactic. It might work fine to get Kleenex to alter its tactics in the short run, but everything they are saying about the shareholders seeing the error of Kleenex's ways doesn't hold water. The shareholders, people who really do, presumably, only care about money, are just going to feel attacked. That doesn't work to gain converts to the environmental movement. The same effort could have gone into side-by-side video where they have the filming of Kleenex in the background and launch a more effective internet media campaign with that. Including personally mailing something non-attack based to the shareholders. This only serves as vindication protest. Everyone who already agrees with them, will be convinced. Nobody who disagreed in the first place will take them seriously. They also air a good bit of footage of the one man standing out there, when asked to elaborate, can't seem to name a single suggestive tactic, other than 'stop doing that' to the camera. Or name another product that really is beside Kleenex everywhere with 100% recycled content (hello Marcal). This reeks of protest for protest's sake, not because they actually care about this topic, not truly well planned boycotting, or good campaigning against a company. And in the end, they could have had the same effect without ruining the temporary employees of Kleenex's day (yeah, that camera guy and crew isn't employed by Kleenex regularly). This just wound up being a perfect example of what I feel is the wrong kind of action. Of course, I still love you, Noel, but I'm trying to send a message to your shareholders ;)
