Submitted by noneck on 2 March, 2007 - 07:31
Where were you during the first controversy of the 2007 Presidential election? Better to also ask, what side were (or as some continue to ask, are) you on? The situation faced by blogger Amanda Marcotte is not an easy one... She held her line and was then held to a cross by conservatives. If your interested in hearing what she has to say, join us on Saturday for an evening of political conversation and inebriation with blogger Amanda Marcotte!
CAMPAIGNING, BLOGGING AND FIGHTING BACK: Netroots Activism in Presidential Politics
Saturday, March 3 @ 7pm (facebook invite)
The Tank
279 Church Street between Franklin and White
8-10pm Happy Hour with free drinks & drink specials
Pannelist: Amanda Marcotte, Scott Shields, and Ari Melber
Moderator: Nancy Scola
It was no surprise that the first major “controversy” of the 2008 campaign revolved around bloggers. Now that the dust has settled from the John Edwards blog flap, come hear the inside story and discuss what it all means for progressive politics, netroots activism and fighting the hypocritical right-wing noise machine.
Join us this Saturday at The Tank for a night of conversation, drinking, and networking. Panel discussion at 7pm, followed by free drinks and drink specials until 10pm.
If you're looking for background on how this "controversy" came about, read Lindsay Beyerstein's salon.com article.
social media club nyc and...
Submitted by noneck on 21 February, 2007 - 08:30
i remise that i had to leave early to attend an event that was to take place tomorrow... thanks howard for all of your hard work. i'm looking forward to coming up with many social media projects to keep attending the social media club.
so what happened tonight? after a brief round of introductions, eric skiff, fellow barcamp nyc councilor, spoke briefly about Podcamp NYC. if you haven't registered, do so quickly! then nate westheimer posed the question "work flow or live search" and attempted to present ventbox. sadly his servers didn't wanna play along. then sanford, josh and i started answering questions about politics. for some damn reason, i thought that tonight was the social entrepreneurship and global change and sprinted down to NYU only to find out that it's tomorrow... DOH!
tonight, like every night, was recorded and can be downloaded at http://www.socialmediaclub.org/category/podcast/ <= mind you it needs to be uploaded first.

LIFT - notes from day one...
Submitted by noneck on 8 February, 2007 - 17:21
BIG, big day... ahhh, i am now living under dire consequences. i'm stuffed with hot cheese fondue, and contrary to everyone's warning i am drinking a cold beer and will polish off a 1.5l of water.
later tonight, i'm going to summarize my thoughts in a separate post, and toss them up here tomorrow morning. my new hostel (really same old hostel, just a different room, a single room no less...) doesn't have wee-fee so my online activities are confined the hostel's bomb shelter. I AM NOT KIDDING. You'll see a few pictures of the door tomorrow. until then, these are my running thoughts from today's sessions. i have to apologies to all the speakers whom i couldn't attend... don't worry, i'll watch your videos and comment on them later... ;)
many kisses goodnight!
Democratic Nerve
Submitted by noneck on 2 November, 2006 - 13:17
Over the weekend, I was fortunate to be interviewed by Kai Ma, a weekly columnist to Nerve's Sex Advice From... As this mid-term election enters it's last stroke, Kai wanted to get the viewpoint from activists. While I felt some of the questions were extremely personal, I did my best to protect the past. ;)
The best quote comes from Kate, 23, who in 2004 worked on the Kerry campaign in Florida.
How can election-night sex be spiced up if the Democrats win?
Wear blue lingerie underneath red clothing. That way, when you take off your clothes you're revealing the blue and getting rid of the red. But then you have to have sex with your underwear on, but that's okay — I'd do it for the cause. Or you can put an elephant trunk on your partner and humiliate the elephant. Donkey-elephant S&M.
What if the Dems lose?
Make the elephant-donkey role play even worse for the elephant. More whipping, more spitting. More severe.
Let's hope the dems win, I'm a bit tired of reading about the bruised elephant.
Thanks Kai!
Defective By Design
Submitted by noneck on 3 August, 2006 - 13:01
speaking of former NY State Senate employees, my buddy, Gregory Heller, is now part of the team that's running EFF's Defective By Design campaign.
in short, their campaign demands the elimination of the restrictive digital rights management systems that persist in today's electronic systems. yesterday, the the digital music weblog interviewed gregory and his team.
frankly, i wish someone would go after wireless provider and their branded handsets. it kills me that i can't take my phone and use it around the world.
heller, sent me this link which is also a great addition to the discussion - facelift for a corrupt industry
