remix america & the break up

declare yourself

many of you know that i dedicated the past few months to a little project named remix america. when i was first contacted, i was egg-static to participate in this historic project. our goal was two fold - remix the political campaigns and teach people about remixing.

despite making history remixing the two conventions; despite working three months against the culture of upload first to youtube; despite a road map that said we were one year a head of the game, the people at declare yourself decided to pull the plug on funding. while the site will stick around till the election, i am no longer the community manager at remix america.

while i haven't received a complete understand of "beverly hills'" failed vision, i can point to one that seems to overwhelm all other conversations - the definition of a good remix. out of the 1336 remixes and clips uploaded to Remix America, NONE OF THEM articulated "what they expected to see." according to the west coast higher ups, no single remixer seemed to get their vision of a remix.

apparently, the only good remix is one that hollywood scripts.

as the convention and breakup wounds heal, i'll come up with a few more points of insight. in the meantime, read Michael Connery's opinion of Declare Yourself.

in the meantime, i'm making plans for the next big thing. i still have 53 hours of Luck of Seven footage that stares at me every morning and there is a children's book that i promised everyone. does anyone have a cottage with an electrical outlet i can borrow for a few months?
